چکیده

Surface preparation for advanced materials inspection methods like electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) generally involve laborious and destructive material sectioning sequential polishing steps, as EBSD is sensitive to both sample topography microstrain within the near-surface. While new methodologies, focussed ion beam femtosecond laser milling are capable of removing in a layer-by-layer manner enable construction tomographic datasets microscope, such techniques incur high initial capital cost slow removal reconstruction rates. In this study, ambient condition electrochemical slot jets applied rapidly etch (e.g. 31 s) large surface areas 160 mm2) at controlled depths 20 μm) with no in-process monitoring. Unveiled surfaces conducive measurement by (raw index rates between 75 95%), despite topographic anisotropy arising from process material. The mechanisms formation during dissolution under jet analysed understood. It proposed that method can be create analysis optical-based microstructural routines reliant on directional reflectance, significantly lower time intervention than beam-based methods.

Experimental characterisation of a solid particles jet generated by a pseudo machining operation

As a part of the development of a new design process of close capture exhausts systems for machining devices, based on fluid flows modeling, an experimental apparatus was realised, which recreates a machining operation in experimentally controlled conditions. The properties of the obtained spray of solid particles were entirely characterised using Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), in order to be ...
